Outcomes and Pathways

What this course offers and how you will benefit

The future is defined by change and challenges: social justice, climate, disruptive technologies, and changing demographics.

Leading change means more than disaster recovery and business continuity – it is a mindset shift to one that is adaptable, flexible and poised to maximise opportunities of change.

To survive disruption, whether it’s gradual or sudden, organisations need to be adaptable. In this programme, you’ll develop skills that foster collaborative working relationships, which support adaptability. You will also apply future-focused resilience frameworks to real problems in your professional environment, while considering the impact on people, place and planet.

The Master of Change and Organisational Resilience offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning. Through case studies, you’ll benefit from the wisdom of leaders and subject matter experts with experience managing change. And you’ll join a network of leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Our programme is for emerging leaders or people who want to move into specialist change roles. Whether you see your career in digital transformation, sustainable leadership or something specific to your work, you will take away a toolkit that will help you solve complex challenges and contribute to the leadership and development of resilient organisations.

Our stackable master’s is learner-centred and there are multiple pathways through the programme. You might start with our short micro-credentials or the Leading Change for Good Postgraduate Certificate. Our facilitators are available to support you to develop a plan to support your unique learning goals.

Anticipating change: This involves identifying potential changes in the internal and external environment and developing strategies to anticipate and prepare for them.

Building flexible structures and processes: This involves designing organisational systems and processes that are adaptable and responsive to change so that the organisation can respond quickly and effectively to disruptions.

Developing a work culture of continuous learning and improvement: This involves fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement so that employees are empowered to identify and address challenges and opportunities as they arise.

Building strong relationships and partnerships: This involves developing strong relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure that the organisation has the support it needs to navigate through challenges and adversity.

Providing leadership and guidance: This involves providing clear leadership and guidance to employees or team members, to ensure that they understand the vision and direction of the organisation, and have the skills and knowledge they need to adapt to changes in the environment.

Not matter which pathway, you will explore drivers of change and the need for more resilient organisations and systems.

You have the opportunity to make change and have positive impact through a project you are passionate about and produce outputs of value after your Master's journey.

Post Masters

This programme is for:

  • People who want to apply what they learn immediately in their work

  • Professionals and community leaders who want frameworks and tools to help them navigate change

  • Aspiring and experienced change leaders

Students enrolled in this Masters come from a range of industries and sectors, including health, education, local and central government, public service, social enterprises and not for profits, as well as those working in a corporate context. The interdisciplinary nature of our cohorts is part of what makes the learning experience at academyEX unique.

The Master of Change and Organisational is the first Master’s programme in New Zealand to be approved with a pathway including stackable micro-credentials. This means you could start with a short course, a postgraduate certificate, or jump right into the full master’s. Every learner’s journey will be different and we’ll help you find the right learning pathway that suits your needs and goals.

The Masters also focuses on applied learning (as do the other Master’s delivered by academyEX), with the project outputs being defined in negotiation with the Programme Team. You have the opportunity to have real impact and support the growth of resilient organisations and systems through your work.

Our stackable learning means you can take a mix ‘n match approach to building your skills, knowledge and network across programmes, no matter which faculty, so you have a customised toolkit to make change and innovate where it matters most to you.

The Master of Technological Futures can include micro-credentials and postgraduate certificate courses. You can think of micro-credentials as building blocks of learning. Each building block could be credited to larger qualifications (e.g. a Master’s degree) if a specific micro-credential aligns to specific learning outcomes covered in a larger qualification. It’s worth having a chat with us about what you’re seeking to achieve for your upskilling so we can help with selecting the right learning pathways for you.

Yes, absolutely. Part 1 and 2 of the Masters programme, no matter which pathway you take, is designed to support reflection, ideation and identification of a project idea. Sitting in the problem space can sometimes be unfamiliar, but it is very important to us that we set you up for success by supporting you to identify your project topic. The content that is taught across Part 1 might also spark some new ideas!

Yes absolutely. One of our goals at academyEX is to support students to enrol in programmes that are going to be of value and help them reach their goals and aspirations. Change and resilience are critical in the education system and the content delivered by industry experts can be translated across a range of industries.

We have a number of educators who are studying this Masters as they are looking outside of education to what tools, frameworks, approaches and learnings can be explored from a range of different perspectives.

To learn more about our Masters programmes, book a chat with Lisa Whittington-Slater, our Outreach Manager.

Some of the classes in our Master of Change and Organisational Resilience are delivered on site at academyEX HQ in Auckland, New Zealand. We recommend these classes are attended in person, however, we also deliver all classes in a hybrid format so you can attend online if you are unable to travel to Auckland.
