WHY SCHOLARSHIPS
Your future is important to us and our planet.
We offer a range of scholarships that cover 75% of tuition fees on our postgraduate programmes to make learning accessible. We know that funding higher education can be one of the biggest barriers to participation.
Our mission is to support as many people as possible to gain the skills, knowledge and qualifications they need to create impactful futures.
Māori and Pacific learners are two of the most underrepresented demographic groups in postgraduate education in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our Tangata Whenua and Pacific Ako scholarships aims to reduce the financial barrier to extending knowledge and opening up new career, community and personal opportunities.
Learning is for life. Thriving, equitable societies means there must be a place for everyone. Our Taipakeke scholarship recognises that age should not be a barrier to building on past careers and experiences, refreshing opportunities and energy to continue to participate in the changing world.
Each year over $1,500,000 (NZD) worth of scholarships are awarded across our portfolio of qualifications. For each intake for our Postgraduate and Masters programmes, there are an allocated number of scholarships available to be awarded.
See FAQ ' How much scholarship funding is available' below for future details.
IMPACT SCHOLARSHIP
Creating impactful futures can’t wait till tomorrow.
Our Impact Scholarship is designed to give people who are already focused on making positive change, the skills and new knowledge needed to amplify their mahi, to make it bigger and make it lasting.
Unlike our other scholarships, the Impact scholarship does have specific criteria applicants need to evidence in a current project and impact on people, place and /or planet.
In your application you’ll need to answer a series of questions outlining the meaningful contributions you are making and could continue to make with the support of study with us, aligning this to at least one of the Impact Scholarship Criteria. Your application could be in a short video (5-10 min) with the link provided to us, or through a written submission, which you can upload or link to as part of your application. If you would like to discuss your scholarship application with our team, please contact [email protected] - we are more than happy to chat about the incredible work you are doing and how our programmes could enable further positive impact.
Future of Education Scholarship
Supporting Educators to upskill in Contemporary Education
Our Future of Education Scholarship supports educators to upskill in contemporary education practices by enrolling in our Postgraduate Certificate in Digital and Collaborative Learning. We know that financial barriers can prevent many educators from enrolling in postgraduate study and we're committed to supporting NZ registered teachers to upskill, collaborate and develop their practice. The scholarship covers $3,220, leaving a $100 administration fee payable.
To apply, complete the scholarship form above. If you would like to discuss your scholarship application with our team, please contact [email protected]
SCHOLARSHIP FAQ'S
Details you may need to know
academyEX offers a significant amount of scholarship funding each year. From May 1st 2023, there are an allocated number of scholarships available to be awarded for our each intake of our PG-Cert and Masters programme , totalling more than @500,000.
For each intake, the following number of scholarships have been allocated:
Postgraduate Certificate in Digital and Collaborative Learning: Future of Education Scholarship (90 places for the August 2023 intake)
Postgraduate Certificate in Leading Change for Good: 8 x 75% scholarships per intake
Postgraduate Certificate in Human Potential for the Digital Economy: 5 x 75% scholarships per intake
Master of Contemporary Education: 25 x 75% scholarships per intake
Master of Change and Organisational Resilience: 20 x 75% scholarships per intake
Master of Technological Future: 8 x 75% scholarships per intake
academyEX scholarships are open only to those who are not currently receiving other financial support toward the tuition fees, including external scholarships.
The Mind Lab/Tech Futures Lab scholarships are the same as academyEX scholarships. You can only receive one scholarship within a 12 month period. This is regardless of the value eg. if a student receives a scholarship for a micro-credential programme, they are then ineligible to receive a scholarship towards a masters programme within the same twelve month period.
For example, if you received a scholarship for study in June 2022, you cannot receive another scholarship for a programme that starts in the period June 2022-June 2023. From July 2023, you could apply for another scholarship if you are continuing your study. Being awarded one scholarship does not imply that any further scholarship will be granted. Each application is reviewed on merit against a contestable pool of scholarship funding. Students who enrol on a programme and who are awarded a scholarship must complete their programme of study. Students who do not complete their studies who have received a scholarship will be ineligible to apply or receive another scholarship for a minimum of three years.
No, the early bird saving may not be used in conjunction with academyEX scholarships.
See the How to Apply section above. During the application process, you will be required to provide some personal information, and briefly answer two key questions:
Tell us a bit about you, your work and your interests, particularly those that are relevant to the programme that you are applying for.
How do you think the programme you are applying for will amplify or support your project (or role) in its potential for impact? Consider the skills and knowledge you want to gain.
You can provide your responses in writing, or submit a video application. The more detailed the response to the questions, the greater likelihood of standing out in the scholarship review process.
To ensure a fair and consistent process for the awarding of scholarships, our scholarship panel will review all scholarship applications received by the scholarship application close date. You will be advised within one week of the application closing date if your application has been successful.
Scholarship closing dates are 4 weeks before the intake start date and can be found in the prospectus (Key Dates)
Scholarship application may be considered on a case by case basis after the scholarship application close date if there are scholarships available. Please contact [email protected] to discuss.

Transfer of scholarship funding to another intake may be approved on compassionate grounds through a written request to the Programme Lead and academyEX General Manager. All requests are considered on a case by case basis, and re-enrolment must be within 12 months of the request.
Yes, scholarships will be granted for the full duration of the programme. If the programme spans more than a 12 month period, a scholarship will be granted for the full programme. The recipient will only need to apply once to get a scholarship for the full programme.
Unfortunately, only domestic students (New Zealand citizens and permanent residents) are eligible to apply for an academyEX scholarship.
Scholarship applications must be submitted when applying for a programme for the first time only. Students already enrolled in a programme of study cannot apply for an academyEX scholarship when transitioning to different parts of a programme.
Please see our Terms and Conditions for those relating to our scholarships. If you have any questions about these terms and conditions, please contact [email protected]
