AI Literacy:
What is it and why does it matter?

The emergence of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT has prompted a wide and urgent debate about how such tools should or could be used in teaching and learning. More fundamentally, it has raised questions about AI literacy - the set of skills and competencies that are needed for both educators and learners to successfully adapt to this new environment. In this session, Dr David Parsons will help us explore what AI literacy is, why it matters, and how we might develop it.

What to expect

This session is based on sharing the results of a recent expert study into what an AI literacy framework could look like. The implications of this for both educators and learners will be explored, and the benefits and challenges of addressing AI literacy in education will be discussed. Attendees will be invited to give feedback on the proposed framework and have the opportunity to participate in its future development.
